Fabrefaction Theatre Company Presents Urinetown
Sep 18, 2013

Urinetown

On Friday, October 4, 2013, Fabrefaction Theatre Company (FTC) opens the irreverent and award-winning Urinetown: The Musical. The show runs Thursday-Sunday at the 156-seat theater in West Midtown. This 2002 Tony Award winning comedy satirizes the legal system, social irresponsibility, populism, and corporate mismanagement. Fabrefaction's rendition of Urinetown will be directed by Heidi Cline McKerley, with Renee Clark as Music Director, and Jeff McKerley handling the choreography.

In an attempt to regulate water consumption, Urinetown has outlawed the use of private toilets. The citizenry must use public, pay-per-use amenities owned and operated by Urine Good Co., a malevolent corporation run by the corrupt Caldwell B. Cladwell.

Urinetown is a satirical piece with music by Mark Hollmann, lyrics by Hollmann and Greg Kotis, and a book by Kotis. It satirizes the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement and municipal politics. The show also parodies musicals such as The Cradle Will Rock and Les Miserables, and the Broadway musical itself as a form. The character of Bobby Strong was included on New York Theatre Monthly's list of "The 100 Greatest Roles in Musical Theatre." It opened on Broadway on Sept. 20, 2001.

"Urinetown is a smart, quirky satire that makes you question the government's authority over your life. At a time when we're learning just how much Big Brother may be watching, this ridiculous tale of warning - that might just make you laugh so hard you have an 'accident' - is just what we need," says Fabrefaction Artistic Director Christina Hoff.

FTC is thrilled to announce that Jeff McKerley, Bart Hansard, Jill Hames, Nick Arapoglou, Caroline Freedlund,
Christina Hoff, Ray Hilton, Spencer G. Stephens, Craig Waldrip, Kayce Wallace Grogan, Robert Connor, Chase Steven Anderson, Matt Lewis, Randi Garza, and Jessica DeMaria are all part of this amazing cast. Isabel and Moriah Curley- Clay are designing the set and costumes, Kate Lafoy is designing props, Kevin Frazier is the lighting designer and Kristen Hunsicker is the stage manager.

RUN DATES | TIMES: Previews at 8 p.m. Oct. 1 to 3. Opens on Oct. 4. Through Oct. 20. 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.

TICKETS: $15 to $30. Although Urinetown is a comedy, it contains violence and language that is not suitable for all ages. We recommend it for ages 12+.
