Broadway in Atlanta Announces 2014/2015 Season


Broadway In AtlantaAtlanta audiences will be able to enjoy the best of Broadway, as Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Atlanta continues its tradition of bringing the most acclaimed touring productions to Midtown's historic Fox Theatre. The 2014-2015 series will feature Atlanta premieres of Disney's NEWSIES, Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID, PIPPIN, MOTOWN THE MUSICAL, DIRTY DANCING as well the spectacular new production of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. BLUE MAN GROUP will once again play the Fox Theatre; plus, Broadway's biggest blockbuster WICKED and crowd pleaser MAMMA MIA! will also be returning as options to the regular series subscription. This expanded lineup will take theater goers on a journey through some of the most notable Broadway experiences, new and old.

Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID
July 8 - 13, 2014

In a magical kingdom fathoms below, we meet Ariel, the little mermaid who is tired of flipping her fins and longs to be part of the fascinating world on dry land. Joining her are Sebastian, Ariel's crabby sidekick; Ursula, the evil sea witch; Triton, King of the Sea and the handsome and human Prince Eric. Based on the Disney animated film and hit Broadway musical, THE LITTLE MERMAID is making its Atlanta debut at The Fox Theatre. So dive on in! Life is the bubbles, under the sea!

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
October 22 - November 2, 2014

Following an acclaimed sold-out tour of the United Kingdom, Cameron Mackintosh's spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's phenomenal musical success, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, will come to Atlanta as part of a brand new North American Tour. Critics are raving that this breathtaking production is "bigger and better than ever before." This PHANTOM features a brilliant new scenic design by Paul Brown, Tony Award-winning original costume design by Maria Bjornson, lighting design by Tony Award winner Paule Constable, new choreography by Scott Ambler, and a new staging by director Laurence Connor. The production, overseen by Matthew Bourne and Cameron Mackintosh, boasts many exciting special effects including the show's legendary chandelier. The beloved story and thrilling score - with songs like "Music of the Night," "All I Ask Of You," and "Masquerade" - will be performed by a cast and orchestra of 52, making this PHANTOM one of the largest productions now on tour.

DIRTY DANCING

The classic story onstage is an unprecedented live experience, exploding with heart-pounding music, passionate romance and sensational dancing. Seen by millions across the globe, this worldwide smash hit features the hit songs "Hungry Eyes," "Hey Baby," "Do You Love Me?" and the heart-stopping "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life." London's Sunday Express says "This crowd-pleasing stage adaptation hits the jackpot!" It's the summer of 1963, and 17 year- old Frances 'Baby' Houseman is about to learn some major lessons in life as well as a thing or two about dancing.

On vacation in New York's Catskill Mountains with her older sister and parents, Baby shows little interest in the resort activities, and instead discovers her own entertainment when she stumbles upon the staff quarters when an all-night dance party is in full swing. Mesmerized by the raunchy dance moves and the pounding rhythms, Baby can't wait to be part of the scene, especially when she catches sight of Johnny Castle the resort dance instructor. NEWSIES was brought to the stage by an award-winning creative team. February 18 - March 8, 2015

Back by "popular" demand. Variety calls WICKED "a cultural phenomenon," and the last time it played Atlanta, it broke North American sales records. Winner of 50 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tony Awards, WICKED is "Broadway's biggest blockbuster" (The New York Times).

Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One - born with emerald green skin - is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good makes for "the most complete - and completely satisfying - new musical in a long time" (USA Today).
