Kansas City social workers Penni and Nathan have to walk a fine line between doing everything they can to help disadvantaged children without getting emotionally involved in their cases -- a difficult task made even harder by the fact that the pair used to be lovers. When the two are assigned the case of a nine-year old boy named Ontario, tempers flare as they clash over how best to help the wayward child.
