King John
Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse
499 Peachtree St NE Atlanta, GA 30308
Shakespeare's play King John was one of his most popular during Victorian times, partly because of its spectacle and pageantry. Today, however, it's a rarely performed gem. John, King of England, was the son of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine. He ruled in troubled times when England and France battled for supremacy. In 1942, George Orwell described it thusly: "With its intrigues and doublecrossings, non-aggression pacts, people changing sides in the middle of a battle, and what-not, it seemed to me extraordinarily up to date." Catch the thrilling history drama now at the Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse in Atlanta.
