In one of the latest works by Pulitzer Prize-winning David Mamet (American Buffalo, GlenGarry Glen Ross), two attorneys are charged with defending a white man accused of raping an African-American woman. In the face of unraveling evidence, the lawyers' own uncomfortable beliefs about race rise to the surface. Director John Dillon tackles Mamet's rat-a-tat language and sharp jabs in this confrontational comedy that skewers modern-day, "polite" society. David Allen Grier received a Tony nomination for the 2009-2010 Broadway run of Race.

"...Most playwrights tend to give us a taste of the political mixed in with their more overarching interest in the personal and the emotional. But in Race, we actually learn very little about the personal lives of the characters. The emphasis here is on the blood and guts of big issues: the law, race, history. As Alec Baldwin memorably said in the film version of Mamet's play Glengarry Glen Ross, "Nice guy? I don't give a shit. Good father? Fuck you. Go home and play with your kids." It's seemingly something of a guiding philosophy for Mamet himself."

"...For the play Race, by David Mamet, is an exceptional production. It got a lot of air time today on WABE with a detailed discussion of the show. Briefly, the plot deals with a wealthy white gent who has been accused of raping a young black woman in a hotel. The defendant, Charles Strickland, (Ric Reitz) has sought counsel from a firm of two lawyers, a black lawyer, Henry Brown (Neal Ghant), and his white partner, Jack Lawson (Andrew Benator)."
