King Hedley II
South Fulton Arts Center
4645 Butner Road College Park, GA 30349
Some of the finest monologues playwright August Wilson ever wrote are featured in King Hedley II, the ninth installment of his famous 10-play Pittsburgh Cycle. One of the two-time Pulitzer Prize winner's darkest works, the production captures the hope and despair of America's decaying urban centers in the '80s. Exhausted by the cycle of poverty and violence, ex-con King Hedley is determined to make a new beginning, even as his old habits prove hard to break. Set in the very neighborhood in which Wilson was raised, this Tony-nominated play explores themes of systemic racism, gender roles, love and sacrifice. Now, the New African Grove Theatre Company presents King Hedley II at the South Fulton Arts Center in College Park.
