A Soldier's Play
South Fulton Arts Center
4645 Butner Road College Park, GA 30349
It's 1944 and a black sergeant has been murdered on a segregated Army base in Louisiana. Captain Davenport, a black officer, arrives at the base to investigate the crime. That's the set-up for A Soldier's Play, Charles Fuller's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama. The plot goes far beyond this premise, however, by exploring the racial divide existing in the country and the armed forces at that time, and by probing the torment of the murdered man and his efforts to purge his own demons. Check it out when it comes to the South Fulton Arts Center in the Atlanta area.
