Set in the backwoods of Louisiana in 1948, A Lesson Before Dying centers on a young man sentenced to death for a murder he did not commit. At the trial his lawyer, trying to save his life, calls him no more a human being than a hog. In prison, he acts like one, insisting that he will be dragged like that hog to his death in the electric chair. As he awaits execution, a local schoolteacher helps him face his impending execution with dignity. This poignant, thoughtful and heart-wrenching play finds both men grappling with what it means to be a man. Don't miss this theatrical adaptation of Ernest J.
